The
Festival began as a dream of the Manteca Film Commission that was
founded in 2001. The original reason for forming the Film Commission
was to help increase the film industrys awareness of the Central
Valley of California as an untapped source for rural and agricultural
shooting locations.
In March 2001, the
Film Commissions first official endeavor was sponsoring the North
American Premier of The Ugly Kid, produced by Shadow Productions and
staring Todd Bosley. After the premier, the commission focused on
formulating plans for the first annual Delta Film Festival.
The goal of the
Delta Film Festival is to enhance the cultural, educational and
economic vitality of the regions it serves, while providing filmmakers
around the world a personalized forum for their creative works. This
festival is a showcase and competition of independent feature length
and short films, with a special focus on digital film processing. The
festival honors a diverse body of emerging and established talent,
including student filmmakers and cutting edge independents.
Located in the heart
of the Central Valley of California, Manteca is the crossroads of
Californiano matter from which direction you are comingnorth, south,
east or west. Located near Yosemite National Park, the Historic Gold
Country, San Francisco, and the Wine Country, Delta Film Festival
attendees and participants can easily combine festival fun with a
favorite destination.
